Somm3, the movie

Somm3 is the third installment of the Somm movie series. The first movie Somm is a documentary film by writer/director Jason Wise, which showcases four men intent on earning their Master Sommelier Diploma. It chronicles their intense study regimen and commitment to their goal and follows them through the Court of Master Sommeliers exam process. The results are both heart warming and heart breaking, but the journey is the real show.

Somm: Into the Bottle, the second installment of the series written by Jason Wise and his wife Christina, highlights the history of wine and the wine making process as a way of explaining why some wines are deemed to be of better quality than others. A fascinating and enlightening look at wine making through the ages, it is a must see for all wine enthusiasts.

And finally, Somm3, the long awaited third installment of the series has arrived! The world premier of the movie was held at Clos du Val Winery located in Napa Valley's Stag's Leap District. As one of the participating wineries in the 1976 Judgment of Paris, Clos du Val was the perfect locale for the movie's unveiling. The premiere was nothing less than spectacular with delectable hors d'oeuvres, free flowing wine, and many of the stars of the movie series on hand to mingle with the attendees. An unexpected surprise was the pouring of a 1979 Clos Du Val Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon to all of the guests, and an opulent bag of gourmet popcorn tossed in duck fat, caramelized garlic and sage. What a way to see a movie! Situated in the winery's barrel room, the scene was both exciting and surreal. And what about the movie, you ask? Well we won't be revealing any secrets here but suffice it to say that it highlights some of the industry leaders who have helped guide the wine world to where it is now, as well as an in depth look at Pinot Noirs from around the globe. To finish off the evening, a Q & A session allowed us to ask cowriters Jason and Christina Wise and several of the movie's stars questions about the movie and it's production.

Wow, what a night...a great event, wonderful food and wine, rubbing elbows with the movie's stars, and a beautiful setting, all helped to create a magical night that we were so lucky to attend with our friend and fellow wine enthusiast, Dana Peters. Thanks Dana for sharing your great event photos with us, and be sure to watch Somm3 this fall!
