Pomar Junction Vineyard and Winery

Recently we attended a food and wine festival and came across a wonderful winery, Pomar Junction Vineyard and Winery. We also had the opportunity to chat with their winemaker, Jim Shumate. We enjoyed each of the wines they were pouring at the festival, and decided to make our next adventure be a visit to the winery in Paso Robles. Now to be fair, it was a little bit of a trek getting out to the winery, but Google maps got us there without any trouble at all. Another important thing to note is that they recently closed their tasting room, and now only do tastings by appointment in the cellar room on the property. But with a little planning ahead, it is definitely worth the trip. We set up the date, and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find that we were being hosted by two of the owners of the winery, husband and wife team Matt and Nicole Merrill. What a fun couple, so gracious and welcoming. We spent three hours that afternoon tasting a vast array of their wines! They have a large wine list boasting 32 different wines, including single varietal whites and reds, several lovely blends, and even a sparkling wine. We enjoyed their wines and our experience there so much that we joined their wine club that day! Our favorite stand out wine was one of their Cabernet Sauvignons, but it was closely followed by all of the others we tasted. The wine prices are incredible for a winery of this quality, with the majority of their wines under $25. This was one of our favorite wine tasting experiences and at the end Matt even took the time to give us a tour of the beautiful estate grounds. (As an added bonus they offer accommodations on site so you can stay and enjoy the tranquility.)

Before you plan your trip to this winery, be sure to visit their website and learn about the rich family heritage of this wine making family!
