If you think you don't like wine, then you haven't tried a wine you like. That is a mantra that we tell everyone we meet when they say they don't like wine. Now think about that for a moment...and believe it or not, there is a wine for you. Our wine journey began in 2004 while on a family road trip with friends. We stopped in the quaint, historic Danish town of Solvang in northern Santa Barbara county for lunch. Our friends took us to a wine tasting room and shared a wine tasting flight with us. We really didn't know what to think, and weren't really sure that we liked any of the wines. But it was a fun experience and....intriguing? A few days and a few hundred miles later, we stopped at a well known winery in Sonoma: Kendall Jackson Winery. Again, a wine tasting flight, and again, intrigue? Then a stop at Trentadue Winery where we definitely liked the “chocolate port” and realized that maybe, just maybe, there was more to this “wine thing” than we had previously thought. Why was that experience so important? Well, it opened our minds to the idea that there might be wines out there that we actually liked. But how would we find them? Well, by and by we were a little more interested in trying a splash of wine at a party or ordering a glass to share at dinner based on the waiter's recommendation. Did we always like the wines? Definitely not, but then again, sometimes we did! We then began to explore more wine tasting experiences by way of dinner parties at friend's houses, bachelor or bachelorette parties, and adding occasional stops at wineries on road trips just to see what they had to offer. Low and behold, we gradually began to find wines we enjoyed and realized that the more we experienced the more we were open to trying. It doesn't have to be a bad thing that you sometimes don't like a certain wine. In fact, the more you avail yourself of opportunities to try wines, the more you will hone in on your particular wine taste, and that will help you find wines you like. So remember, if you don't think you like wine, then you haven't tried a wine you like. So keep tasting until you find a wine you like!
